A core aspect of the mission of Notre Dame Kylemore is community outreach. The University of Notre Dame strives to help the local community and engage with local organizations to offer time and service. As part of all the programs conducted at ND Kylemore there is the opportunity of volunteering in the community through various channels, with various local groups. This channel provides a wonderful opportunity to engage with the Irish citizenry in meaningful authentic ways. Please share with the director if this sort of experience is important to your program and the center will facilitate a volunteer project for your program.
If your organization would like to propose a service or community outreach project, please contact us.
Sustainability Initiatives
Ireland is known as the isle of Saints and Scholars. Its position on the edge of Europe, a gateway to the continent, is nevertheless separated by the Irish sea. Our students are curious and adventurous people with a thirst for knowledge and new cultures so travel while studying abroad go hand in hand.
In an effort to offset the carbon footprint of flights to the continent we organise service days for our students to take part in conservation projects in Kylemore and Galway City.
The Arts at Kylemore
The West of Ireland has a rich tradition of storytelling, culture and arts, with many emerging artists practising in Galway, and arts festivals taking place across the region. While the centre of Irish cultural life is generally considered to be in Dublin, Notre Dame Kylemore participates in an effort to highlight and elevate the arts in the West by showcasing and supporting local artists, and by introducing international artists to Connemara.
What Do We Owe Each Other?
Notre Dame Kylemore engages with the theme of the University of Notre Dame's 2024-2025 forum: "What Do We Owe Each Other?". Through reflection and concrete action, we seek to embody this theme.
