2019 Global Gateway Faculty Research Award recipients announced

Notre Dame Research and Notre Dame International have provided three researchers with grants from the Global Gateway Faculty Research Award (GGFRA) Program for 2019. The GGFRA Program was developed to highlight the potential of the University of Notre Dame’s Global Gateways for the advancement of research and scholarship at the University.
“The GGFRA Program was created to support internationally significant research projects and collaborations with academies, universities, or research groups,” said Richard E. Billo, associate vice president for research and professor of computer science and engineering. “From the humanities to engineering, this year’s awardees have found diverse ways to take advantage of Notre Dame’s Global Gateways and the resources they offer.”
The 2019 GGFRA recipients are:

Liang Cai, assistant professor of history, and Meng Jiang, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, for their project at the Beijing Global Gateway titled, “Digital Empires: Structured biographical and social network analysis of early Chinese empires.”

Andrew Kennedy, associate professor of civil & environmental engineering & earth sciences, and Joannes Westerink, professor of civil & environmental engineering & earth sciences, for their research at the Dublin Global Gateway titled, “Storm wave transport of giant boulders in western Ireland, and links to climate.” -
Ian Newman, assistant professor of English and fellow of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, for his project at the London Global Gateway titled, “Nineteenth-century experimental song collective.”
In addition to Notre Dame Research and Notre Dame International, the program is also supported by the Keough School of Global Affairs.
